  TECHNOLOGY MEASUREMENT

  A measure of the extent to which a school has the equipment that would make it possible for technology to have a substantial impact on students' education. Whether that impact occurs, of course, depends upon how a given school makes use of its computer and video equipment.

  Possible values range from HIGH to LOW.

  Indicates the presence of electronic technology in schools that accounts for their different sizes, the different student populations that they serve, and the different types of equipment in their technology mix.

  The indicators were derived by factor analysis of data regarding modems, CD-ROM, interactive videodisc, satellite dish, networks, cable television, computers, VCRs, monitors, presence of an ILS system, presence of a World Wide Web browser or homepage, and the number of on-line services subscribed to. Also included in the analysis were enrollment, number of schools in the district, grades taught, Title I student percentages, multicultural student percentages, per-pupil expenditures (DDP) and Lifestyle indicator.
