Athens Academy is an independent non-profit college preparatory co-educational school founded in 1967. The school is located on a 105-acre wooded site south of Athens, Georgia. The school enrollment is 865 students in pre-school through grade twelve. There are 310 students in the Upper School, grades 9-12. The curriculum provides general college preparatory and honors programs. The college preparatory program will adequately prepare the student for the college of his realistic choice. The honors program offers students of outstanding ability and performance the opportunity to accelerate their studies. The College Board Advanced Placement Program is offered as an outgrowth of the Academy's honors program. Art, music, physical education and drama classes are offered in addition to the traditional academic disciplines. Co-curricular activities include clubs, student service organizations, and a full athletic program. Enrollment is open to people of all races, religions, and national origins. The total number of graduates since 1971 is 1,667. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
